Kitchen remodel

I know you are doing it around your work schedule, I'm just sayin...
No doubt, it is slow going. What makes it even worse is watching the damn HGTV/DIY shows where they do an entire kitchen in 3 days...but thats what 20 workers and an unlimited budget will get you.

Floor looks like a bowling alley...
Yep, that is exactly what I wanted. I love shiny.

Boxes built. I still need to build the bar separating den from kitchen and fridge enclosure and pantry unit. Mid-late this week I will be edge banding all cabs and installing legs on the lowers, so they are ready to be stained/lacquered by weekend. Next week will be final install, call the granite guys, order all the doors/drawer fronts and the drawer boxes.

Lowers are all sitting at various heights. Sink cab is the only one that is at actual height. By final install, all will be at 34.5". They are just sitting there temporarily because my garage isnt big enough to hold them all and continue to build stuff.

Will they be? The outlets, not the decora switches which I'm sure is what BOP is seeing.
You only need one, the first one in the run, assuming they are all wired in series, which mine are. Yes, I will add one at some point. $10 and 5 minutes.

Having multiple ovens rocks. I've got 3, and have used them all simultaneously already. Have 6 burners and a grill also rules. I've used the grill to set my griddle pan on cooking bacon, while i had hash browns going on one burner, mushrooms & onions sauteeing on another, spinach wilting on another, sausage going on another, and omlettes being made with said ingredients on another. Even had one to spare. Now I need more pans.

Matthew, do you like how I hung the uppers? There is a steel track screwed to the studs, and each upper has two brackets (which are adjustable in/out and up/down) and you literally just hang them up there, attach the cabs together, and then put one or two screws in and call it a day.

Yup. Variation on the french cleat. Makes installing cabinets a breeze.

Edge banding didnt show up until Monday. I have the uppers banded and first coat of stain, half the lowers are banded, will do those and the pantry tonight and hopefully second coat of stain on uppers. Im hoping to get them lacquered by Sunday, then do the final install early next week, range will be delivered next wednesday, so hopefully all cabs are in by then. Granite install date is the 21st, templater (I made this word up, not sure if it really is a word) is going to come out mid next week when lowers are set and secured.

Matthew, what material are your drawers made out of? 5/8" Baltic birch ply seems good enough for me, but they also come in wood stock, but of course they cost more. What glides did you go with?

The full extension self-close are $16 each x 2 per drawer times 21 drawers and that is a hefty price tag. Edit: nevermind, I just found the specification, sold as pairs. Ill probably get these then

I will have to look. I gave carte blanch to the cabinet maker. My dad was ooohing and aaaaahing over the construction of them, and the plywood componets of them were bazillion ply, premium stuff.

I got the nice plywood as well, $58 a sheet for maple. My dad was amazed at how much nicer it is than what you get at Lowes/HD. I brought home 10 sheets of 3/4" in my pickmeup. When you rip it, aside from being able to see the layers, it was filled so well it could have been stock. Beautiful stuff.

We had some 3/4" T&G scrap that somehow made the trip from MI to AZ (don't ask me how or why) from when the rents built their house. That stuff is AWESOME compared to the junk they sell nowadays. Rip a sheet, and its just filled with void after void after void. Plywood manf have seriously cheapened the product, and its expensive to boot.

I went back and looked at your pics. and it is nearly impossible to tell without a closeup, but you have one drawer box that is huge, Id guess roughly 14" tall, and most likely the baltic birch. 14" wide stock would be really expensive, if they even make it that wide. Plus the color of the boxes is so uniform and looks to be an identical match to the unpainted cab sides.

You talking about this one?

That's a pull out waste/recyclable.

Yes, but this pic which shows the drawer boxes without the fronts. That particular box is quite tall, and I would imagine that would lend itself to ply rather than wood stock. All the other boxes have the same uniform, clear color (without knots or other markings), which also match the unpainted cabinet sides. So my guess is that your boxes are baltic plywood.
