Zip Code 80085 (What state do The Simpsons live in?)

Moe said in a recent episode of The Simpsons that he only moved to Springfield because the Zip code spells "BOOBS" on a calculator, so that is 80085... Unfortunately 80085 doesn't cover some town called Springfield, in fact it doesn't cover anywhere- it is as of yet unassigned, though if it one day came into existence it would probably be assigned to part of Colorado. So could Springfield be really based in Colorado? We know it has mountains and a gorge so possibly, but the mythical Springfield also has been shown to have a sea shore, even close enough to an off-shore oil rig accessible by raft- so Colorado probably is not the home of the 'real' Springfield. Interestingly zip cod 58008 was also highly searched for because you often turn a calculator upside down when reading words... this zip code does exist, and ironically is Barney, North Dakota, not Springfield but the name of Homer's best friend- coincidence or did the writers know this? There is a Springfield, ND but it is a small farming town 4 and a half hours North of Barney, in the middle of nowhere extreme North- not the climate of the Springfield we know and love.

They did say Kentucky once but for a number of reasons pointed out in the first post it's unlikely it really was Kentucky, for one it is a land-locked state.

An interesting update on this subject is from the season 21, episode 22, "The Bob Next Door." In this episode Side Show Bob tries to kill Bart in an ingenious way at "5 Corners" - the fictional place where 5 US States meet. This is obviously based on 4 Corners which is real and interestingly enough Colorado is one of the 4 States. (Along with New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah.) So perhaps this is another clue Colorado is where the writers intended Springfield to really be and the occasional sea-shore episodes are just part of the usefulness of an animated series where things don't always have to make sense all the time?

We know the State Springfield is in was one of the 5 corner States because Police Chief Wiggum and company had jurisdiction in that corner of the State... Interestingly in The Simpsons 5 Corners two of the States appeared to be New York and Texas by the accents and uniforms of the other police officers- something very different from the real 4 Corner states.
